Muffins and music
I made a batch of muffins for breakfast at the weekend. I think the secret to making successful muffins is to get them the right thickness. It’s hard to make them too thin, but very easy to make them too thick. If that happens, it can be difficult to cook them right through without burning the outside. Nowadays I make mine about a centimetre thick. They don’t gain that much volume during the prove, but puff up enthusiastically once they hit the cast iron pan.
After a good breakfast we headed over to the Mellis Festival to enjoy live music, beer and people-watching.
A stained-glass phonebox isn’t something you see every day, but the highlight of my day was watching Them Harvey Boys perform a bluegrass version of the Bee Gees Stayin’ Alive. Outstanding.
