Taste of Freedom

Whatever your political views, it is incontestable that a humanitarian crisis is unfolding in Syria, with the Red Cross now struggling to get aid into the country. My Lebanese sister-in-law just drew my attention to a project called Taste of Freedom, which has been set up to raise funds for the British Red Cross Syria Crisis Appeal.

Taste of Freedom is a collection of recipes recorded by a Syrian mother, Hayfa Theodora Massouh, for her English-born daughters.
The book has been made downloadable in PDF form in return for a contribution to the Syria Crisis Appeal, and contains a selection of dishes from the Levant, including regional favourites like hummus and baba ghanoush, illustrated with photographs from the streets and markets of Damascus taken in happier times. Bread-makers might want to try making their own pitta to go with these great dishes – much better than the shop-bought variety.
